Why Your Business Needs to Blog

Blogging is an important and growing part of any brands marketing strategy.  It adds a lot of value to your business and your brand, and it doesn’t have to be hard or complicated.

A good blog helps drive traffic to your website and helps with SEO rankings.  Actively blogging lets Google know that your site is active and constantly being updated with new content, and as we know with online marketing, content is king.

It also helps you to get discovered through social media, the content you create tends to get shared which helps you get noticed by a larger audience that may not know who you are yet.

An active blog can also help to drive sales.  The idea of a blog for business is to show your audience that you are an expert in your industry, you know the news, the trends and what consumers want.  It’s also a great way to get customers information for email marketing, simply ask them for their info when they come to read your blog.  This gives you an opportunity to put other messages in front of the user like your newsletter and special offers.  In order to help drive those sales, your blog should have a call to action,  such as signing up for your newsletter

Consistency is key!

Blog on a consistent basis, every week, every other week or even once a month.  This regularity helps your followers to know when you will be posting new content and ensures that you always have new content on your site that is unique.

Don’t rack your brain trying to think of new unique content every week, a lot of sites generate heavy traffic from blogs that were published months ago, or even from old content that gets re-purposed for current trends.  I personally pick one topic a week and write a blog as well as shoot a vlog (video blog) of the same topic.  Now you’ve just increased your original content by 2 for the same thing, just in a different form.

Have fun with it as well, it doesn’t have to always be about selling yourself or your product, it’s about creating a community.

Blog about things happening in your community, charities you may be involved in, events you attend.  Give your brand a personality and this will help you to connect more with your customers.

Blogs are also a great way to learn about your customers and what their interests, wants and needs are.  Pay attention to the comments you receive and interact with those who do and ask questions to get more information out of your consumers. Your customers want to tell you all about themselves, all you have to do is ask and listen. Getting to know who your customers are will help you to build a much stronger and longer lasting relationship.

Most importantly, keep it fun for yourself.  The second you look at it as a chore or a nuisance, the less effective it will become.  Be passionate about whatever you are writing about and you will be sure to connect with your clients on a much more personal level.
